Background Check in a Companys Perspective
In our daily lives, checking on someone’s background has become a protective measure especially when someone seems to be suspicious. There can be loads of reasons why people perform a background check on others. It must be to maintain their safety and security just like in secured places such as pawnshops, airport, persons needing daycare staff, parents needing nannies, or apartment owners looking for renters of their properties. Aside from these people, there’s a whole lot more reasons why people perform a background check.
The process performed in investigating the past of a person through studies of public records, financial records, and business records is called a background check. This process is usually done in companies needing manpower. This is to make sure that the people they are accepting for manpower are honest, trustworthy, credible, and has no criminal records. Background check is known to have been normally done by police and private investigators but with the advancements in security technology, a background check is now performed by companies and also ordinary people who wanted to be safe.
A background check can be of different type. It depends on what information you are going to use or need. In companies, they usually ask references or contact numbers from former job bosses to verify details and ask about the person’s character or if there were any records of misconduct before. Then they also verify the personal details especially the ones included in the resume. They will check for the truthfulness of the data which includes credentials, awards, name, school, address, and other personal details. They will usually focus on the identity of the person for the fact that identity theft is one of the growing crimes of fraud nowadays. This is done by also checking profiles plus social security numbers. Credit history is also checked and they are trying to find out if there are any past bankruptcies or financial problems. For companies needing drivers, they will definitely include a background check on driving and history of traffic violations or accidents. They will also require tests on alcoholism or drug test to ensure that the person is free from any harmful vices or prohibited substances. Initially, companies conduct interviews and create probing questions that can help in the background check investigation.
There are also limitations when it comes to acquiring records to be used for a background check. Some credits and debts are not revealed for some laws prohibit it. Usually, medical records are also concealed for these are much private and some of the information can only have a little or no effect on the background check.
